Camera SledsДЄ camera sled is a moveable block added to an assembly-often as a virtual component-on which a camera is located. For those situations, we have camera sleds. This method makes it easy to capture simple transitions, especially if you just want to go between some of the default view orientations, but more detailed paths are difficult to generate accurately. Just like with component motion, SOLIDWORKS will interpolate the path taken by the camera from one key to the next.

You can incorporate changes in appearance or lighting with your keys, or, as I will show here, you can simply move a camera around a model to get a more complete view.ДЄs you zoom, pan, and rotate, SOLIDWORKS can create keys automatically to store the resulting views in the animation. This transition between keys is shown in the timeline by a вЂњchangebar.вЂќДЄs I mentioned earlier, animations are not just limited to component motion. SOLIDWORKS will calculate the position of the affected component at discrete frames in between these keys so that there is smooth motion from the starting point to the end. You use вЂњkeysвЂќ to define moments in the timeline where something happens, such as an assembly component rotating 90В°. The animation is defined in an interface called the MotionManager, which includes a timeline illustrating the journey taken by each actor in the animation. A Brief Overview of AnimationsДЄnimations in SOLIDWORKS are a simple form of motion study in which models can be moved without regard for physical characteristics or interactions (e.g., weight, collisions).

LetвЂ™s go through some important animation concepts and then take a look at how to set up and use camera sleds. Camera sleds offer improved control over the motion of the camera in 3D space, utilizing assembly mating techniques standard to many SOLIDWORKS users. For this latter process, a camera sled is a tremendous asset.

In addition to previewing a designвЂ™s intended motion, animations can show motion of a camera around and through the model, giving viewers a closer look at key details. While more advanced rendering programs like SOLIDWORKS Visualize can give you a highly polished product, a lot can be done within a basic SOLIDWORKS animation to show off your work. Double clicking it or dragging it into the viewport will activate it.SOLIDWORKS animations are a great tool to evaluate and illustrate your models. Once a view has been created, it will appear in a list in the views tab. Clicking one of these buttons will create a view from the current arrangement of the assembly in the viewport.

From the вЂњViewsвЂќ tab, you can get access to the вЂњCreate ViewвЂќ and вЂњCreate Camera ViewвЂќ buttons. A camera view saves the orientation of the camera while you make changes to your actors whereas a standard view holds the locations of the actors as well as well as the orientation of the camera. The two types of most widely used views are the standard view and the camera view. Views are a backbone of SOLIDWORKS Composer used in making the majority of deliverables, so getting familiar with them is a must for any SOLIDWORKS Composer user. Using these tools, you can position your assembly in a variety of ways. To Rotate, hold the center mouse button and move the mouse. To Pan, hold the control button and the center mouse button. To navigate in the Viewport, you can use three tools: Pan, Zoom, and Rotate. The window the assembly is displayed in is called the вЂњViewportвЂќ. After a short conversion process, your assembly is viewable and modifiable in SOLIDWORKS Composer. After opening SOLIDWORKS Composer, simply clicking вЂњFileвЂќ -> вЂњOpenвЂќ will select your CAD assembly. One of the most powerful features of SOLIDWORKS Composer is its compatibility with existing CAD models, whether it is SOLIDWORKS or otherwise.
